CFP: Diversity and Inclusiveness Conference

Texas A&M University at Galveston announced that they will be hosting an upcoming conference of Diversity and Inclusion in Higher ed that may be of interest to many of you.  Here are the details:

Call For Papers:

The TAMUG Conference on Inclusion and Diversity in Higher Education aims to enable and facilitate constructive dialogue and interaction about enhancing inclusion and diversity efforts in higher education. While TAMUG serves as the ocean oriented campus of Texas A&M University with a unique blend of marine and maritime programs with majors in science, business, engineering, liberal arts and transportation and we invite abstracts addressing inclusion and diversity within those fields, we also encourage submissions beyond their scope.

We invite students, faculty, diversity officers, student life personnel, or other occupational classifications, early and/or advanced professionals from a variety of institutions to propose individual papers, panels and posters including, but certainly not limited to the following topics related to diversity and inclusion in higher education:

  • Creating a climate of inclusion
  • Culturally responsive teaching
  • Engaging faculty in promoting diversity and inclusion
  • Assessing diversity and inclusion programs
  • High impact practices and student success
  • Effective mentoring practices
  • Diverse living and learning communities
  • Understanding identity among diverse students
  • Supporting and developing first-generation college students
  • Intersectionality and identity
  • Creating inclusive higher education environments, programs, and curriculum;
  • Expanding opportunities for educational access and success by traditionally underrepresented populations
  • Educating about and assessing cultural competencies
  • Initiative building strategies
  • Underrepresented populations in the sciences
  • Mentoring and underrepresented populations
  • Mechanics of institutionalizing inclusion and diversity
  • Peer facilitators and inclusion and diversity initiatives

Please submit abstracts of 300 words along with a short bio to the conference organizers, Dr. Carol Bunch Davis and Dr. JoAnn DiGeorgio-Lutz at [email protected]  by October 1, 2016.  If you are interested in chairing a session, please indicate your interest in your email.  Noticiation of acceptance will be in early December, 2016.

The conference will be held at the historic Hotel Galvez, Galveston, TX
