The Southern Historical Association will be hosting their 83rd annual meeting in Dallas, TX on November 9-12, 2017. Regional scholars all all aspects of the history of the American South are invited to attend. Registration is now available on their website.
The Southern Historical Association was organized on November 2, 1934 and charged with promoting an “investigative rather than a memorial approach” to southern history. Its objectives are the promotion of interest and research in southern history, the collection and preservation of the South’s historical records, the encouragement of state and local historical societies in the South, and the teaching and study of all areas of history in the region. Dues are among the lowest of any major professional organzation (student dues are only $10/year) and reflect the organization’s emphasis on promoting open participation and exchange of ideas.
