CFC: Daily Life of Women in World History

AAR-SW Friends,

Editors Colleen Boyett, Mildred Diane Gleason, and Micheal Tarver are looking for scholars to contribute entries to their forthcoming Encyclopedia on the Life of Women in World History. Interested authors should contact Micheal Tarver at [email protected] for a list of available entries. Below is the original full call for authors.

Now seeking contributors to a forthcoming four-volume encyclopedia on the daily lives and roles of women in world history to be published by ABC-CLIO, under the editorship of Colleen Boyett, Mildred Diane Gleason, and Micheal Tarver. Expressions of interest are welcome from graduate students, postdocs, professors, independent scholars, and public history professionals.

An entry list has been determined by the editors and publisher, with entries ranging from earliest societies to modern nations. Entry themes are: The Arts; Economics and Work; Family and Community Life; Recreation and Social Customs; and Religious Life.

Forgoing traditional A-Z entries, the encyclopedia will instead contain individual entries focusing on roles of women — such as Patrons, Artisans, Mystics, Guardians of Sacred Shrines, Academics, and Professionals — within specific societies. Among the 35+ Societies included are Ancient Mesopotamia, Ancient Israel, Ancient India, Ancient and Early China, Classical Japan, Pre-Islamic Middle East, Byzantine Empire, Islamic Caliphate, Medieval Europe, West African Kingdoms, East African Kingdoms, Southern African Kingdoms, Feudal Japan, Dynastic China and Korea, Central Asian Empires, Americas before 1492, Ottoman Empire, Colonial Latin America, Colonial Canada and the United States, Russia and the Soviet Union, Modern East Asia, Modern West, Central and South Asia, Modern Sub-Saharan Africa, and Modern Australia and New Zealand.

Individual entries will be no longer than 1,000 words.

Deadline for the initial round of contributions is January 1, 2017. Contributors who author multiple entries will be assigned varying deadlines to foster the submission process. Additional calls for contributors will appear thereafter.

For a full list of entries, and/or to express interest in contributing, please email Micheal Tarver at [email protected].
