CFP: Southern Historical Association

The 83rd Annual Meeting of the Southern Historical Association will take place at the Sheraton Dallas Hotel in Dallas, Texas on November 9-12, 2017. The 2017 Program Committee invites proposals on all topics related to the history of the American South from its pre-colonial era to today. Submissions for single papers are accepted and we encourage session proposals that include two or three papers, as well as two commentators and a chair. All proposals for the 2017 program must be submitted online. The online proposal submission portal will be open through September 15, 2016.

The Southern Historical Association was organized on November 2, 1934 and charged with promoting an “investigative rather than a memorial approach” to southern history. Its objectives are the promotion of interest and research in southern history, the collection and preservation of the South’s historical records, the encouragement of state and local historical societies in the South, and the teaching and study of all areas of history in the region. Dues are among the lowest of any major professional organzation (student dues are only $10/year) and reflect the organization’s emphasis on promoting open participation and exchange of ideas.
